Situated above the glittering harbour of Gustavia, and surrounded by tropical vegetation, the Carl Gustaf is a charming hotel featuring 14 one or two bedroom suites. Each suite is located in a pretty cottage all of which capture the panoramic view of the harbour and distant islands.
The hotel bears the name of His Majesty the current King of Sweden, who graciously gave his personal
permission in recognition of the Swedish presence on the island.

Truly an institution on the island, the Carl Gustaf is today one of the most prestigious luxury hotels, blending perfectly well into its environment. In November 2004, Hotel Carl Gustaf was voted as the number two Caribbean/Atlantic Hotel in the Condé Nast Traveler ( USA edition) 2004 Readers' Choice Awards. In January 2005, the Carl Gustaf earned one of the most coveted distinctions in the travel industry: a place on the 2005 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List, an annual guide to the Top 700 hotels, resorts, and cruise lines in the world.
The 14 suites, each offering magnificient views over the harbour, have been designed to accommodate
the guests’ needs who wish to spend a holiday as a couple, a family or with a group of friends.
Each suite has been designed with one or two-bedrooms offering the highest levels of comfort.
Spacious, bright and charming, all of them have their own style defined between tradition, elegance and sophistication. All the furniture is in pastel woods to create a refined French-Caribbean styled atmosphere.
All are equipped with mini bar, safety deposit box, direct telephone line, computer with Internet access and
printer, TV with DVD and video players, CD players, large selections of DVD and videos, and books for
reading pleasure.

Best View Suite with Jacuzzi (approx. 600 sq ft) for 2 people, ocean view:
Cozy and romantic. Situated on the upper level of the hotel, this suite offers the most beautiful view of the Gustavia harbor. This suite features a fully-equipped kitchenette, a separate bedroom with air-conditioning,
a lovely mahogany four poster bed, a bathroom with shower, two sinks, separate toilets and an integrated
hair dryer. There is an outside terrace with an exterior lounge with private Jacuzzi.
One-Bedroom Suites with private plunge pool (approx. 800 sq ft) for 2 people, ocean view:
The suites feature a large living-room with ceiling fans, a fully-equipped kitchenette, a separate
bedroom with air-conditioning, a bathroom with shower, two sinks, separate toilet area and an integrated
hair dryer. There is a large outside terrace with deck chairs and a private plunge pool. (The king size bed
can be converted into twin beds. It is possible to add a cot or an extra bed in the bedroom.)
Two-Bedroom Suites with private plunge pool (approx. 1200 sq feets) for 4 people, ocean view:
The two-bedroom suites feature a large living room with ceiling fans, a full-equipped kitchenette, two
separated bedrooms with air-conditioning, a large dressing, two bathrooms with shower, two sinks,
separate toilets, and an integrated hair dryer. There is a large outside terrace with deck chairs and a private
plunge pool. (The king size beds can be converted in twin beds. It is possible to add a cot or an extra bed
in the bedrooms.)
Sport Suite with private plunge pool (duplex approx. 1200 sq feets) for 4 people, garden view:
The entry-level floor features a large living room with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a full-equipped American kitchen, a terrace with private plunge pool and partial view of the Caribbean sea. The ground level consists
of two separate bedrooms (garden view), two bathrooms with shower, a sink, separate toilets and an
integrated hair dryer. (The king size beds can be converted to twin beds. It is possible to add a cot
in the bedroom, but no extra bed.)
THE BAR
The bar, entirely decorated in the most pure French-Caribbean tradition, offers a unique view of the
Caribbean’s most elegant port of call. A splendid setting to admire an alluring sunset while sipping
exotic cocktails and listening to live music. Our barman will be delighted to compose your favorite
cocktail or aperitif.
After watching the sunset, our guests can enjoy a candlelit dinner.
THE RESTAURANT
The Hotel Carl Gustaf already has a reputation for one of the finest dining experiences in the French
Caribbean. The addition of Emmanuel Motte as Head Chef builds on the restaurant's impressive reputation.
Head Chef, Emmanuel Motte, oversees the menu selection and the running of the restaurant. Drawing on
his experiences from positions held in France, UK and other areas of Europe, Motte is responsible for
creating the menu which emphasizes international, artistic and abstract gastronomic French cuisine.
Previous experience include Chef de Cuisine at the Hotel Francois Plantation and Sous Chef at the Hollington
House Hotel in Berkshire, England. Highlights from the menu at the Carl Gustaf include Yellow fin tuna tartar
with basil, marinated with lime and coconut milk; Swordfish marinated and grilled with Cajun spice and
Creole sauce, sweet corn and parsley potatoes; Grilled veal chop with polenta and roasted onion, green
vegetables and candied garlic; and Crispy chocolate fondant with caramelized banana and vanilla ice cream.
